  • Young In ACE Presents ICP-MS-Based Heavy Metal Analysis at PSW 2026

Young In ACE, a Korean mass spectrometry company, participated in the 11th Plasma Spectrochemistry Workshop (PSW 2026) held at the headquarters of the Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST), where it presented a case study on ICP-MS-based heavy metal analysis.

The workshop took place from April 8 to 9, 2026, and served as a professional academic platform bringing together experts from academia, industry, and research institutes to share advancements in plasma-based analytical technologies.

Presentation Topic │ CRM-Based ICP-MS Analysis

At this event, Young In ACE delivered a presentation titled:

“CRM Analysis Using ACE 3000 ICP-MS”

In recent years, increasing concerns over food safety and the growing impact of environmental pollution have significantly raised the importance of heavy metal analysis in food and seafood.

As a result, there is an increasing demand for analytical technologies capable of accurate and precise determination of trace-level hazardous elements.

Why ICP-MS Matters

Heavy metal analysis is not simply about detection—it requires:

  •  - The ability to measure extremely low concentration levels
  •  - High accuracy in quantitative analysis

In particular, for food and environmental samples, toxic elements such as:

  •  - Lead (Pb)
  •  - Cadmium (Cd)
  •  - Chromium (Cr)
  •  - Arsenic (As)
must be accurately quantified even at ultra-trace levels.

What is ACE 3000 ICP-MS?

The ACE 3000 ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer) is an elemental analysis system that ionizes samples using high-temperature plasma and detects elements through mass spectrometry.

Key Features

  •  - Ultra-trace elemental analysis (ppt level)
  •  - Capability to analyze a wide range of sample types
  •  - High sensitivity and high precision

CRM-Based Analytical Results

In the presentation, analytical results based on NIST certified reference materials (CRM) were introduced using the ACE 3000 ICP-MS.

Key Findings

  •  - Stable quantitative results for major heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, As)
  •  - High accuracy and reliability compared to certified values
  •  - Detection limits at the ppt (10⁻¹²) level

These results demonstrate that the system is capable of

accurate analysis of ultra-trace elements.

Applications in Food and Environmental Analysis

The presentation highlighted a key takeaway:

ICP-MS is an essential analytical tool for food and environmental analysis.

It is particularly applicable in:

  •  - Food safety monitoring
  •  - Heavy metal analysis in seafood
  •  - Environmental contamination analysis
  •  - Quality control

In these areas, ICP-MS provides the accuracy and reproducibility required for reliable analysis.
